Clay Center Public Utilities announced that Utility Park Zoo’s newest residents, two cheetahs, Urkel and Nellie, can be viewed by the public starting this week. The free zoo is open until 5 p.m. each day, so make sure to stop in and see them!                            (Ryan D. Wilson/Dispatch)

Clay Center Public Utilities has a couple of new residents at the Utility Park Zoo, but they’ll be here temporarily for four months. Last week, Public Utilities announced they are now on display in the new big cat exhibit at Utility Park Zoo.

The two cheetahs, Urkel and Nellie, are on loan until the cheetah cubs that PUC purchased are old enough to be weened, said Public Utilities Commissioner Bill Callaway. They cost $20,000 each.
