A cyber attack by hackers based in Russia has forced a shutdown of the Clay Center Public Utilities computer system, according to Bill Callaway, CCPU superintendent.

Clay Center’s computer was one of a number of all over the world involving a virus demanding a ransom payment under threat of destroying data files on the computer. The city’s utility operations were not affected, but the operations involving scheduling, budgeting and billing--the complete accounting system--had to be shut down.
