In tackling redesign, Wakefield School is taking advantage of its unique set-up as a K-12 School to enhance learning opportunities for its students, principal Tom DeBauche and redesign co-pilot Jay Sleichter told those attending the joint site council meeting last week. The school has taken advantage of small-group settings inate to a small school and paired up older kids with younger kids to meet a need to better reach kids.

Sleichter said in surveying kids, staff, parents and community members they realized that one of the first four  things the school  needs to focus on is building better relationships between staff and students and between students and other students. The school also needs to give attention to life skills, rigor and engagement, he said.
