New exhbits

At the end of a long day working on the bear exhibit last week, utilities workers put away equipment before departing Utility Park Zoo. A lot of work has been done for the bear exhibit, left.  The building for monkeys and lemurs, right, now houses four lemurs.       (Ryan D. Wilson/Dispatch)

You’d be amazed by all that Clay Center Public Utilities has done themselves in building the new exhibits for Utility Park Zoo -- everything from fabricating and crimping the metal wire fencing for the bear exhibit to building climbing and enrichment structures for the bears.

“That’s been the key thing,” Public Utilities Superintendent Scott Glaves said. “We’ve done so much of it ourselves that we’ve been able to build it for  pennies on the dollar.”
