Tiger harriers compete at Wamego Invitational

The Tiger Cross Country team traveled to compete in the Wamego invitational Saturday, Sept. 9. Junior Grant Smith led the CCCHS boys as he finished 14th out of 114 runners with a time of 17:10 in the 4A 5000 meter run. Sophomore Justin Wright, with a time of 18:51, placed 48th. The third Tiger runner to finish was freshman Brett Hoffman who placed 73rd with a time of 19:46.80. He was followed closely by senior teammate AJ Peerson at 77th in 19:56.60.
Senior Carson Floersch crossed the finish line 83rd with a time of 20:36.50, and right behind him at 85th was freshman Fernando Avalos, 20:40.50. Rounding out the varsity Tiger runners was Junior Jace Brownell with a time of 21:09.90 as he placed 93rd.
The CCCHS boys finished 11th out of 15 teams with a team score of 273. Buhler took first with 76 points while the home team took second as Wamego scored 86 points. In third with a team score of 88 points was Southeast of Saline. Other NCKL team scores were Abilene in ninth at 257, and Chapman 12th with 321. Marysville was fourth in the 3A race with a score of 181.
Sophomore Caiden Thompson led the junior varsity boys' team placing 65th out of 171 runners with a time of 22:23.20 in the boys' 4A and 3A 5000 meter run, followed by freshman JT Alton with a time of 23:14.40 to place 83rd. Right behind at 85th was junior Jordan Entgelmeier with a time of 23:15.70.
Other JV finishers were freshman Cole Tromp 24:13.80, senior Alek Tipsword 25:33.20, sophomore Taige Pfizenmaier 26:22.40, senior Brycen Peterson 26:25.70, freshman Keagen Schurle 26:58.40, junior Erik Holloway 29:28.30, and freshman Robert Hendrickson 34:28.90.
As a team, the Tiger JV boys placed 12th with a score of 330. Like with the varsity event, the Buhler boys also took first in the JV run with a score of 40 points.
The Tiger Cross County team is back in action as they host their invitational Thursday, Sept. 16 with a start time of 4 p.m.
