Pastor Lillian’s message at Green Methodist on May 7, Mother’s Day, was titled “Jesus Continues” with scripture from Acts 9:36-43. Vonda Wiedmer gave the children’s message using puppets to tell the children about missionary Gladys Aylward. Green Revitalization Organization (GRO) will begin receiving donations on May 16 for the garage sale to be held June 3, 4, and 5 at the Green Community Christian Center. Call Vonda (620-437-7620), Molly (785-565-8942), or myself (785-632-1998 or 785-944-3334) to make arrangements to drop off items.
I have received the sad news of two deaths this week. Green resident David Herrs (Griz) passed away on May 11. You can see David’s obituary at https://www.nsrfh.com/obituary/david-herrs. Former Green resident Leonard Stogsdill has also passed away. Leonard was married to Sandy Lund, and I believe he passed away in Illinois this past week. Our hearts go out to both of these families in their loss.
The Green Rural High School reunion on May 7 was a huge success! The group of graduates, former students, and guests spent the day visiting the sites in Green. Several met at the Green cafe before the festivities at the community center started at 10:30. The Green Christian School (formerly Green Rural High School) was open for guests to visit before lunch. The Green Museum was open all day for visitors, with a special display for GRHS. A delicious meal, prepared by Jodi Gonser and Terri Jermark, and served by Greg Pfizenmaier was enjoyed. Dessert was provided by Nancy Kimbrough in memory of her dad Maurice Lund. After lunch Molly Brew entertained the group with singing songs from the 50’s and 60’s. The last class to graduate from Green was 1960, and the group decided this would be their last high school reunion. I know that groups from Green will continue to meet for coffee at the Green Cafe!
Joy Deane Wickstrum Pfizenmaier read a letter to the group from Larry Miles, who could not be at the reunion. Some brought scrapbooks to share with the group, which everyone enjoyed. Today’s photograph is GRHS graduates as follows: Back row, Larry Schroeder, Norma Sump Dupus, Jim Dawson, Donna Moore Dawson, Bob Jaymes, JoyDeane Wickstrum Pfizenmaier, and Noel Pfizenmaier. Front row is Bertha Yeager Morgison, Joanne Appleton Pfizenmaier, Marlene Dettmer Chartier, Marilyn Avery Habluetzel, Betty Lou Gebhart Cooper, Wilma Hugunin McGrath, Jean Dawson Noble, Beverly Osborn Carlson, Andrea Johnson Easterberg, and June Kulp Campbell. Attending but not pictured were Pat Jaymes Simmons, Jim Evans, and Jolene Walker Evans. Charlene Gebhart Fortney, who attended GRHS but moved before graduating, came the farthest distance of 1,000 miles. Photographs of the day were taken and we plan to make a scrapbook of the last reunion to display at the Green Museum.
I played Bunco at the Green Cafe on May 9. I didn’t win anything this time but a review of the last year was given and it turned out that Judy Lippert and myself had both won two times for most wins and two times for most losses! Send your news of today and yesterday to firstname.lastname@example.org mail to 2119 21st Road, Green, KS 67447.
