The Alonzo F Dexter American Legion Auxiliary Unit #101 met Oct. 13, 2021 at 7:00pm at the Legion Post. President Karen Reed called the meeting to order according to ritual with Chaplain Jeanna Fancella giving the opening prayer and all reciting the Preamble and giving the Pledge of Allegiance and singing the National Anthem. Sec./Treas. Lois Staley called the roll of officers, read the Sept. minutes, and gave the treasurer's report. Staley also gave a report of Piotique table being a success thanks to all you helped in anyway.
Judy Stitt, Americanism chairman, gave a quiz about Presidents of the past. A lot was not remembered by the members present so we all were refreshed on some knowledge. Also it was discussed that Oct. 14 would be President Dwight Eisenhower’s 134thbirthday. The Eisenhower Pilgrimage that is usually held in October is canceled this year as was last year because of Covid.
Our paid-up membership is increasing towards our goal but still a lot to renew and we always welcome new eligible members. Contact Lois Staley 785-632-1751 or any member if interested and to get an application. The Veterans need you and so do we.
The Soup Supper to be at the Methodist Church Scramble Oct. 20 from 5-7 was discussed. There will be a silent auction that eve as well. All proceeds will go to the KS Honor Flight. Sign-up sheet for soup and desserts to be donated was passed and Staley will be contacting members for help also. Fancella will be putting in Dispatch.
Fancella, National Security Chairman, talked about getting winter prepared.
Reed read a story about a US Navy Veteran who was in the 2021 Pageant for “Ms. Veteran America”. Overcoming the inability to walk she was able to walk the aisle at the pageant.
Dates to remember: October 23, District 4 Homecoming 12:00 noon at Manhattan Post #17. Dec. 11 Operation North Pole at Fort Riley.
