The League of Kansas Municipalities’ annual “My City, My Home” essay contest is now open, affording local seventh grade students the opportunity to earn a cash prize just for telling the world what makes their home a fantastic place to live.

This contest is open to all Kansas students enrolled in the seventh grade during the 2021-22 school year. Each student may submit one essay. Essays must be typed and are not to exceed 500 words. Essays will be accepted until November 24, 2021.

Aspiring essayists may upload their essay by clicking on the link at https://www.lkm.org/page/essaycontest. Essays will be evaluated based on the following criteria: understanding of city services, creativity, clarity, sincerity of thought, and proper grammar.

Five regional winners receive a cash prize of $125. The sixth regional winner will represent the state of Kansas and receive a $250 cash prize. Winning memos will be published in the Kansas Government Journal. Winners and their teacher are invited to attend a special ceremony with local leaders at an upcoming League event.
